Blog challenge Day 11: 15 of my favorite things

I have done several of these “favorite things” lists, and so I’m going to attempt to add some stuff I may not have mentioned in previous versions.

  1. Azalea bushes (I want one in my front yard at the new house)
  2. sea shells (I have a collection of shells I’ve found on all my beach vacations)
  3. postcards (I wish more people sent them)
  4. 4-color clicky pens (especially the pastels version)
  5. Pop Crush sparkling Pinot Grigio
  6. incense (especially jasmine, lavender, and sandalwood)
  7. theme journals
  8. Australian licorice (red or black)
  9. other people’s selfies
  10. the smell of puppy feet (they totally smell like corn chips!)
  11. intense conversations while intoxicated
  12. hearing D snore lightly while he sleeps next to me (and waking up next to him in the morning)
  13. when my cat gives me kisses on my hand while i pet her (her tongue feels a bit like sandpaper)
  14. poetry – writing it and reading it (especially poetry written by Clementine Von Radics)
  15. that endorphin rush after a good workout (sometimes I giggle at the end of the 30 day shred or a hard run)

for women who are difficult to love

you are a horse running alone
and he tries to tame you
compares you to an impossible highway
to a burning house
says you are blinding him
that he could never leave you
forget you
want anything but you
you dizzy him, you are unbearable
every woman before or after you
is doused in your name
you fill his mouth
his teeth ache with memory of taste
his body just a long shadow seeking yours
but you are always too intense
frightening in the way you want him
unashamed and sacrificial
he tells you that no man can live up to the one who
lives in your head
and you tried to change didn’t you?
closed your mouth more
tried to be softer
prettier
less volatile, less awake
but even when sleeping you could feel
him traveling away from you in his dreams
so what did you want to do love
split his head open?
you can’t make homes out of human beings
someone should have already told you that
and if he wants to leave
then let him leave
you are terrifying
and strange and beautiful
something not everyone knows how to love.
