lately (in my head)

I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night with poems in my head. I write them down and then go back to sleep. Some of them aren’t too bad. I’m thinking about putting them into their own journal.

I only owe the IRS $565 this year. This is a fucking miracle and cause for celebration.

I also made more money last year than ever before. A milestone number. That’s exciting. Starting my own firm is the best career decision I ever made.

I know it’s not a popular thing to say, but I’d very much like to keep as much of my money as possible, which is one of the (many) reasons I need Bernie Sanders to gtfo.

Yesterday was a good day and just makes me that much more ready to be in the new house. We are putting the finishing touches on things in the next week or so. I’m hopeful they will be breaking ground by the end of the month.

Freya was upset about something yesterday and threw a bit of a fit. I went up to her room to talk to her. She was sobbing. I talked to her and held her. She calmed down, and we walked downstairs together. She even sat next to me. We have come so far in our relationship recently and I am feeling really good about it.

Both kids have recently said things that indicate that while they definitely understand their other parent isn’t pleased with the current situation, they are not only happy and well adjusted, but are also excited about where things are headed. This brings me great peace of mind.

We have picked out a lot of the furniture we want to get. I’m particularly in love with the bed. It’s a perfect blending of our styles. I was worried we wouldn’t be able to find something we’d both like, but it’s perfect.

My joints have been really bothering me a lot recently. I think it’s because of the weather. I’m hoping it will clear up once spring arrives. Unfortunately, it has made it difficult to exercise. I’m way behind for my February miles. I have only logged two miles so far this month. I am going to try to fix that today.

Jackson has a sore throat and had to stay home today. It looks sort of bad and I’m hoping it isn’t something serious like strep. I’m also hoping I don’t get it. I had to cancel a bunch of fun plans today because of it. I also had to reschedule my oncology appointment, which means I stayed up all night worrying about it for no reason. Now I’m just pushing that worrying off until the end of the week.

I’m one of those annoying people who really likes Valentine’s Day. I can’t wait to spend the day with my Valentine. I feel like a sap saying this, but even when things are hard, they are still so good, and so worth it.
